Shopify & Shopify Plus

Shopify SEO
agency.

SEOArmy is a Shopify SEO agency for brands that have outgrown the basics. Shopify makes launching a store easy and ranking one surprisingly hard: fixed URL paths, duplicate product links, and a dozen apps loading scripts on every page. We clear those ceilings, then build the collection and product rankings that turn organic search into orders.

The Shopify problems
that cap your rankings.

Most Shopify stores share the same handful of structural issues. None is fatal on its own; together they explain why good products sit on page two.

Duplicate product paths

Products reachable under every collection they belong to.

Why it matters

Splits internal link equity across URLs Google then has to reconcile. We point every internal link at the canonical /products/ URL.

App and theme bloat

Scripts from apps you tried once and never fully removed.

Why it matters

Leftover code slows the pages that sell. Core Web Vitals on collection templates are often the cheapest win available.

Filter and tag URLs

Search & Discovery filters, tag pages and sort parameters.

Why it matters

Filter combinations multiply into thousands of thin URLs. We decide which deserve indexing and keep the rest out of the crawl.

Shopify Markets & hreflang

Subfolders, domains and translated content.

Why it matters

International setups often ship with untranslated pages or conflicting signals, so the wrong country version ranks.

Theme structured data

Product, offer, review and breadcrumb markup.

Why it matters

Many themes output partial or duplicated schema. Clean markup feeds rich results and the product data AI assistants compare.

Thin collection pages

Collections that are just a product grid.

Why it matters

A grid with no copy, no internal links and no buying help rarely beats a competitor that answers the shopper’s questions.

The Shopify
playbook.

We work inside Shopify’s rules rather than fighting them, and we change your theme through version control so every edit can be reviewed and rolled back.

01
AUDIT

Crawl it the way Google does

A full crawl plus Search Console and order data shows which collections earn revenue, which product paths are duplicated, which apps load where, and how many filter URLs Google is wasting time on.

02
THEME

Fix the template once

Liquid changes to canonical product links, headings, breadcrumbs, pagination and schema apply across the whole catalog. Removing dead app code usually comes in the same sprint.

03
COLLECTIONS

Turn grids into landing pages

Intro copy, buying guidance, FAQs and internal links to sub-collections, placed so they help the shopper rather than push products below the fold.

04
GROWTH

Content, video and AI visibility

Buying guides and comparisons that link to your products, a monthly product video, and the reviews and mentions that get your brand named in AI shopping answers.

Where Shopify SEO
actually gets hard.

URLs you can’t change, and links you can

Shopify fixes its URL prefixes: products live at /products/, collections at /collections/, content pages at /pages/ and articles under /blogs/. You can edit the handle after the prefix but not the prefix itself, so there is no point chasing a “clean” structure; there are better uses of your budget. The issue that matters is collection-aware product links. Many themes link products as /collections/mens-shoes/products/trail-runner, which renders a second URL for every collection a product belongs to. Shopify adds a canonical pointing at /products/trail-runner, but the internal links still point everywhere else, so crawl time and link signals get split. The fix is a small Liquid change so product cards link straight to the canonical URL, and we test it on a duplicate theme before it goes live.

Shopify now lets you edit robots.txt through a robots.txt.liquid template. We use that carefully, mainly to keep crawlers out of sort parameters and filter combinations that will never deserve to rank, while leaving useful filtered views, such as a high-demand color or material, crawlable as proper landing pages. Variant URLs with a ?variant= parameter canonicalize to the parent product, which is usually what you want, unless a variant is searched for in its own right and deserves its own product.

Collections deserve more attention than they usually get. On most Shopify stores the collection pages, not the products, rank for the valuable category terms, yet they are often a title and a grid. We add a short introduction above the products, deeper buying guidance and FAQs below them, links to related sub-collections and a sensible heading structure. Smart collections built on product tags and conditions let you create targeted landing pages for searches like a material, use case or price band without touching the catalog itself, which is often a better answer than opening tag filter URLs to Google.

Speed is mostly an app problem

Shopify’s hosting and CDN are fast. Slow Shopify stores are almost always slowed down by what has been added on top: review widgets, upsell popups, chat, tracking pixels and theme sections that load on every page whether used or not. Uninstalling an app does not always remove the snippets it injected into your theme. We map every script to the app that loaded it, remove the dead ones, defer what can wait, and replace heavy apps with native theme features where Shopify now offers them. Candidly, most apps installed “for SEO” are slowing stores down more than they help.

International stores and AI shopping

Shopify Markets can run international versions on subfolders or separate domains and adds hreflang automatically, but only for the content you actually translate and localize. We check that each market has translated handles and meta data, correct currency in structured data, and no redirect logic that hides pages from crawlers. Shopify has also been building ways for AI assistants to discover and sell catalog products directly. Those surfaces depend on the same product data your store already publishes, so accurate titles, attributes, inventory and reviews do double duty for search and for AI shopping answers.

How we touch
your Shopify theme.

Your theme is your storefront. These are the rules we follow so SEO work never breaks checkout, the design or a sale weekend.

Duplicate theme firstEvery Liquid change is built and tested on an unpublished copy of your live theme, with a diff your developer can review.
Redirects before handle changesAny renamed product or collection handle gets a URL redirect in Shopify admin at the same moment. No orphaned links.
No launches into peakWe freeze template changes in the weeks before your biggest sales periods unless something is actively broken.

Shopify SEO
FAQs.

No. Shopify handles hosting, SSL, sitemaps and basic canonicals well, and plenty of Shopify stores dominate their categories. Its limits are real but workable: fixed URL prefixes, collection-scoped product links in many themes, and a reliance on apps that can slow pages down. A good Shopify SEO agency works around those limits instead of recommending a replatform.
A technical and revenue audit, theme fixes for internal links, schema, headings and speed, collection and product page optimization, filter and tag indexing decisions, Shopify Markets checks for international stores, content and buying guides, a monthly product video, link earning and AI search visibility tracking. The mix is weighted to whatever is holding your store back most.
Usually some of them. We audit what each app loads and where, then recommend removals, replacements or deferral. Many stores find apps they no longer use still injecting scripts, and some app features are now available natively in the theme. We never remove anything that affects checkout or tracking without your sign-off.
Yes. Plus stores tend to have larger catalogs, multiple markets or expansion stores and more custom theme code, which makes duplicate content, hreflang and crawl efficiency more important. We work with your in-house or agency developers and fit into your deployment process.
Apps can fill in meta fields and generate alt text, but they cannot decide which filter pages should be indexed, rewrite your collection strategy, fix how your theme links products, or earn coverage from publications. Most of what moves rankings on Shopify is judgment and template work, which is what an agency is for.
We can improve the odds. Assistants compare products using structured data, feeds, reviews and third-party coverage. We fix your product data, make sure your structured data is accurate, and build the reviews and mentions that make your store a credible recommendation, then track how often you appear.
